What Is Yoga?

Yoga is a gift and a challenge. It has been an unexpected companion in my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual journey the past three years. It has saved me. It has pushed me. It has made me smile. It has given me permission to cry. It has frustrated me. It has delighted me. Most importantly it has and continues to push me.

Yoga is something that happens on your mat when you put yourself in a vulnerable and honest spot. What it gives is unique to the body and spirit on the mat. It is flexible and adaptable. It is coy. It refuses to reveal its whole self immediately. Instead, like the best relationships, it grows more intimate with time.

It is breath. It is light. It is a vehicle that allows me to release my past; discover my present; and choose my future. It is wonderful and powerful.
